Overview

Murraywood Construction are working with Morgan Sindall on two Grade A office developments as part of the Wirral Growth Company project to transform Birkenhead and the surrounding areas in Wirral. The borough is set to undergo a massive regeneration, with both Wirral Council and Muse Developments committed to bringing about growth and redefining the way people in the area live and work as part of a 50:50 venture.

It’s hoped that this project will bring about new business to the area and as more and more people are opting to return to office life post pandemic, companies are in need of quality workspaces and our work will be integral in achieving these goals.

What are we doing?

We’ve been contracted to complete the full groundworks package for this project which includes completing the foundations, preparation and installation of reinforced concrete slabs for the sub-base and installation of ducting and drainage.

As well as this, we’ll also be completing external works, which will consist of constructing block paving, reinforced grass and porous grid parking bays with a sub-base for rainwater to be collected in as part of sustainable urban drainage solution.

We’ll also be surfacing roads, footpaths and parking bays within the perimeter of the project.

Social Values

At the beginning of 2022, we committed to collaborate with local colleges and communities in the Wirral to create opportunities for young people. As a result, two people from our team went to speak to a group of students about careers in the construction industry and the potential pathways they could go down once they’d completed their training.

We also gave them information regarding industry platforms and portals including CITB, GoConstruct, CTRS and Talenview to help them with their career pathways. Off the back of this event, we are set to recruit two young people from the group when they have finished their current course.

Additionally, we partnered up with principal contractors Morgan Sindall to undertake works at a local primary school in the Wirral. We installed a foundation for a timber structure to sit on, therefore creating an outdoor learning space for students at St Joseph’s Primary School to enjoy.

Most recently Murraywood was invited to attend a national employability event at Seetec Plusss at the Wirral which catered to those who had been unemployed for a substantial period of time. We have since recruited three operatives to work on the project following this event.
