Murraywood Construction Limited are currently seeking to recruit Trainee Groundworkers to join our team in the North West. Groundworkers are the first trade onto a construction and civil engineering site and work closely preparing the site for the structural building works to start. They continue their work throughout the project, working with most of the external trades that come to site, this will include setting out, preparing sub surfaces, installing drainage, concreting, constructing roads and pathways and hard landscaping.

Over the duration of the Traineeship you will work towards achieving your NVQ L2 in General Construction Operations. You will also have comprehensive on the job training and support to help your learning and development. Murraywood Construction Limited are looking for self-motivated individuals who are flexible and able to show a sound social approach to the company and other employees. You will have the ability to work as part of a team as well as being able to communicate well with other employees.

WHAT YOU WILL LEARN

Attending college one day per week during term time and practical work experience on your actual site.

All of these will involve working in and around mechanical plant. The opportunity of being trained to use the mechanical plant will be available once passed the age restrictions.

Principles of Health, Safety and Environmental

Responsible work practices and their application

Use of Personal Protection Equipment (what, when and why)

Substructure

Excavate formation concrete of foundations to various structures

Drainage

Excavation and installation of various diameter of drainage lines to facilitate foul and surface water systems

Mechanical & Electrical

Excavation and installation of infrastructure to facilitate the mechanical & electrical needs of the structure

External Works

Installation of hard and soft surfacing, ranging from car parks, concrete surface yard to the public realm including paving, kerbing and edging

Environmental and Health Hazards

Awareness of environmental and health hazards, such as Japanese Knotweed, Asbestos etc.

Technology

Technology including systems of work, appropriate to different work environments

Movement of Loads

Movement of loads using both manually and mechanical aids, this could include guiding of such vehicles, using hand signals, etc.

Temporary Works

Providing temporary works including excavation support

Effective Communication

Oral, written, electronic, listening, body language and presentation

Customer Service

This is all customers – your colleagues, manager, main contractor, the public – you are a representative of Murraywood Construction and your whole attitude to all mentioned reflects on the company and industry as a whole
