Overview

Royal Liverpool University Hospital was given a major upgrade and transformed into the largest medical facility in the UK at 94,000m2 and is due to open in September 2022.

It boasts 650 single ensuite bedrooms and 18 operating theatres and sits adjacent to the existing hospital which will be demolished once the new one is up and running.

We completed both the enabling works and the full groundworks package  for this huge, state-of-the-art facility.

What did we do?

We did the site enabling works which consisted of us creating new site entrances, haul roads and accommodation facilities to enable to main works to progress.

Then we completed the full groundworks package to build the new hospital building which included the removal of asbestos contaminated material, the mass fill of foundations up to 2.5 metres deep and the construction of core foundations.

Drainage was also put in by ourselves as we installed liver sewer diversion and connection, foul and surface water drainage systems and CCTV and jetting to all drainage.

And we constructed lift and escalator pits as well as retaining walls up to 6 metres tall, which we also waterproofed.
