Overview

Lancashire Cricket Club, based at Old Trafford Cricket Ground in Manchester, got the green light to expand their stadium and the Red Rose Hotel with work getting underway at the beginning of 2022.

Murraywood Construction worked together with Eric Wright Construction on this development which included plans for a new 1,025-seater stand to increase the number of fans who cheered on Lancashire Lightning during their T20 derby against Yorkshire Vikings and supported England for their five-day tests against the likes of India, Pakistan and Australia.

This project also included the installation of a heritage centre on the ground floor, a guest services hub, a brand-new retail store and an extra 100 bedrooms in the club’s hotel, as well as increasing the capacity for those attending a conference or event at the facility by 200.

For members of the club, there are enhanced viewing spaces comprising a dual-aspect suite within the spectator viewing terrace meaning fans can feel even closer to the action and experience the joy of every wicket and every six more than ever before.

What are we doing?

During this project we were busy excavating pile caps and ground beams as well as backfilling ground beams and pile caps.

We’ve also up filled and compacted the ground, concreting pile caps and ground beams and completed the formwork for a lift shaft as part of the substructure.

When we returned to this site, we completed the under-slab drainage, ground floor slab as part of phase two, and finally the external works for phase three.
