I have been undertaking work experience with Murraywood construction since leaving secondary education whilst having a year out before going to university, during this time I have gained knowledge about how groundwork companies function and how sites operate.
Whilst on site and in the office, I also gained knowledge about machinery, construction related Health and Safety and the roles available both on and off site. I am more knowledgeable on how to deal with aspects of site finances, products used by the company and have a clearer understanding of IT programs such as Syrinx and Microsoft products, as well as the bespoke software used by Murraywood and SharePoint.
Murraywood also provided support and guidance for me to acquire my CSCS card which allows me to go out onto site and see the works first-hand.
I am now entering the university stage of my life I am not sure if I will continue with a career in construction when I leave, but this period of working within the company has given me a good insight into what is available, required and possible with a construction company.
I am enjoying my time here, have received excellent guidance from my line manager and colleagues and as a result have acquired practical skills that I would not have in a classroom environment and that I can take forward with me whatever I decide to do.
