Overview

Murraywood Construction worked with Ballast Nedam Parking Ltd on a massive eight storey car park right in the heart of Blackpool to take pressure off the existing Central Car Park. With more and more people looking to staycation in resorts like Blackpool, building bigger and better infrastructure to cater to this increase in demand is vital and we were delighted to be a part of it.

This project came as the coastal town had been awarded £300 million as part of the Blackpool Central leisure development which was expected to attract an extra 60,000 visitors each year and therefore bring millions of pounds to the area.

Our work on the multi-storey car park has ensured that there’ll be an abundance of parking for both residents and visitors, especially when the leisure phase of the development which includes new attractions, hotels, restaurants, an events square and heritage quarter is completed.

What did we do?

We were contracted to complete the substructures and main drainage in our first visit, and then the external works on our second.

When we first got on site, we had to demolish part of the existing flat surface Central Car Park before we could start work on the eight-storey one which will eventually replace it.

Following this, we worked on the substructure by doing excavations, foundations, formwork, reinforcement and concrete works. We also installed the concrete slab, as well as drainage, ducting and lift pits.

When we went back for our second visit to the site, we completed the paving, kerbs and installed tactile paving as well as tying in the exit of the new car park to the road.
